Major DNS issues lead to long Suso wide outage

This morning we have had some issues with DNS resolution of our primary domains that has caused some widespread outages on all Suso services. Services may be still be unreliable over the next 24-48 hours as DNS caches flush throughout the world. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the outage, some of the email that is sent to you during this time may be rejected at the source. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Email outage this morning

Unfortunately we have lost access to our virtual account email servers over night and are working to rebuild them. Email for those accounts will be unavailable this morning as we rebuild the system. It may take several hours to do this and some email that you received in the last 24 hours may have been lost. We apologize for this inconvenience and are doing what we can to recover the service and any lost messages.

Email delivery issues

We are currently experiencing issues delivering incoming email to some Suso accounts. We are working on the issue and hope to have this problem resolved today. We expect that once we have resolved the issue, that all email that is currently in hold will be delivered normally.

Mail delivery issues

Today we've been hit with a mail delivery issue caused by our upstream provider misconfiguring some kind of inline mail filtering device designed to stop spam. This was causing some e-mail to bounce back to the sender. For the time being, we've disabled our MX mail server so that mail won't continue to bounce until the problem has been resolved, which should hopefully be today. We're working with our provider to correct the issue.

Email sending issues

One of our parent internet providers has recently had a large IP address block added to an e-mail sending blacklist. The IP addresses we use for many of Suso's servers are part of this larger IP block. We have contacted our parent provider about this issue as well as the blacklist provider and are waiting for a quick resolution, however it may take some time. During this time you may experience problems sending e-mail through Suso to other recipients such as error messages returned via e-mail saying that the remote email provided would not accept your message. You should try sending the message again every few hours or use an alternate e-mail provider in order to communicate. There shouldn't be any issues receiving mail on your Suso account. Sorry for this inconvenience.

Hardware issues cause outage/reboots

Tonight one of our main servers had a hardware issue that required a reboot. This server hosted several Suso Servers and Customer Virtual Machines that all had to be rebooted and caused 2 hours of downtime during the recovery process. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Emergency server downtime due to security bug

A major security issue that you probably will hear about in the news was released last night and required our immediate attention today. It has been called the Heartbleed bug and you can find out more about it at This issue required us to restart some of our services this morning causing momentary downtime. All services should be functioning normally again and we appologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Emergency server downtime

Yesterday morning we had to perform some emergency maintenance of our primary server and this led to downtime for most hosts between 11am and 2pm EST (1600 - 1900 GMT. Downtime of e-mail services and authentication this morning

This morning we had an extended period of downtime due to the previously mentioned move of several services to a new server. Services are restored now, however there will be additional downtime over the next few days that is planned as part of our continued move. We will try to keep the outages to a minimum and appologize for this inconvenience.

Suso is upgrading all its services

Suso is going to be upgrading all our services over the next two weeks. We've done this before a few times over the last 16 years and are planning to make this as painless as possible for everyone. We will be switching all our IP addresses and upgrading many of our servers. However, there will be some brief downtime and slowness at various times over the next two weeks. After the move is complete you can expect that the speed of all services should improve and they will be more redundant and resilient to issues. If you have concerns you can contact us at, however most people will not need to do anything and the changes should be transparent.

Server crash causes downtime (further issues)

This morning we had a hardware failure on one of our servers that hosts several servers, including one of the shared user servers (dorabella) with websites and some email services. All services are now restored however services will continue to be slower than usual throughout the day. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

UPDATE: We are continuing to have a few problems as a result of the this mornings recovery. We had a problem with one of the filesystems where home directories were located and this was causing a problem with some people checking and receiving their e-mail. We had to reboot the server and were down for about an hour during that time. We've now fixed that issue, however services will remain slow for several more hours while the replacement disk rebuilds itself. Thank you for your continued patience while we fix these issues.

Network outage

We had an extended network outage overnight due to lighting directly striking our power generator. We're now recovering from this. All services should be working by noon EST. Most will be available earlier. Sorry for any inconveniences this causes.

Emergency shutdown of a few systems

We have to do an emergency shutdown of a few servers today in order to fix a malfunctioning disk. The downtime should be less than an hour, but during this time most mail services will be offline as well as many user websites. We apologize for this inconvenience.
